A red-bellied woodpecker... Not sure which is more surprising... a sort of clear shot, or that it didn't bolt when I finally managed to aim the camera...what pretty bird.

Good shot of the woodpecker. My dad (age 80) up by Yankton SD gets beef fat from the grocery store and puts it up for his woodpeckers. He has seen 5 different woodpecker varieties all feeding at the same time on the beef suet. The butcher calls him the "woodpecker guy". Dad says they only like beef fat, not pork. Woodpeckers are cool.

They are. So's your dad! That's great. I wonder, does he put that out raw or does he render it? I only see downy and red-bellied woodpeckers around here. I'd love to see a pileated...they look so big and colorful.
