My two cuties on their favorite perch... I'm not sure if it's the height of it they like most, or what it's made of... it's a calcium & cuttlebone perch. (they never touch the plain cuttlebone in their cage)

Beautiful blue & gold macaw..thought this looked really nice with the trees in the background.... I don't think this particular bird was able to fly (clipped wings)...Must have been a long climb to get up there.

Beautiful electus parrot... big difference (coloring and beak) to the purple and red varieties...

I think this is a "caique"....(wonder how that's pronounced....). Very colorful birdie...

Titmouse at my gazebo feeder.... haven't seen these little guys lately...

Thought this was a swan...then suddenly thought "wait a minute....don't all swans have that black 'mask' around their beaks?"...but finally...umpteen google image searches later, yes, this really is a swan, just like I thought (though some think it's a type of duck...hmm)... this type is called a coscoroba swan.

Colorful Military Macaw..... I didn't realize there were so many kinds of macaws...

This beautiful macaw was slowly working it's way towards me (and the handfull of cedar nuts I had for him or her).

This pretty birdie hammed it up for the camera... patient too. He/she wouldn't come any closer, but this was close enough for a few shots.

I know, not the best shot. But it's more documenting the fact that they actually did this. :) It's a start...

This is an electus....right when I took this, another bird flew by....(this is the blur)...good timing.

Totally unimpressed by the cedar nuts I was trying to entice them with. Look at those beaks...wow.

Thru the bars... an amazon parrot...I think. These always look to me like they're smiling. At some angles anyway.

A "Major Mitchell's" cockatoo.... beautiful...this one, a bit camera shy... but patient with me while I tried to snap a shot.

Two of my own....starting small. A parakeet is supposedly the easiest bird to have as a pet... guess I'll see.

I thought this was a very neat looking duck... it was almost too quick to snap a clear-enough shot.

I like the "up close and personal" shots. It's good when they take a moment to pose.

You might already know what a blood feather looks like. I didn't until I saw one for myself (and then made the stupid mistake of cutting it; that's one mistake I'll never make again!).

This is what it looks like. Granted, not the best picture but Angel (my white parakeet who's more devil than angel) did not like this at all (the postion one must hold a bird to see this) so I had to be very quick.

If you trim your birds flight feathers, you will inevitably see one of these. When you do, DO NOT cut it! If you do, it'll bleed, and if you're not expecting that, (as I wasn't), it could be a scary experience. When this happend, I brought Angel to the bathroom sink to try and rinse the spot and then held my finger on her wing (on the bleeding spot) until the bleeding stopped. All while trying not to panic and trying to keep her from flying away. (more things she didn't like.) A pinch of flour or some styptic powder (the kind made for birds/pets) would've been better probably. But at the time, I just wanted the bleeding to stop and applying pressure works for humans, so I hope it would work for her. It did.

She was ok afterwards, but if I hadn't stopped the bleeding quickly, she could've bled to death. Terrible to think about.

Lesson learned! Do not cut blood feathers! Now when I trim their (Sonny or Angel's) flight feathers, I check first to make sure none of them are blood feathers.
